Set up protection before your phone is lost or stolen. Apple says Stolen Device Protection adds safeguards when an iPhone is away from familiar locations.
On supported iPhones, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Stolen Device Protection and turn it on.
Apple says the feature is available with iOS 17.3 or later and requires Find My and other security settings to be enabled.
Find My lets you locate, mark a device as lost and, where appropriate, erase it remotely.
Do not remove a stolen iPhone from Find My just because someone claims it has been found.
Use a passcode that is difficult to guess and use Face ID or Touch ID where available. Avoid entering your passcode where someone can watch you.
Use Apple's app-locking features for sensitive apps where supported. Banking, email and authentication apps deserve particular attention.
Keep a current backup so losing the physical device does not mean losing your photos, contacts and other important information.
If stolen, go to iCloud.com/find, select the device and mark it as lost. Do not attempt to recover it yourself if its location is unfamiliar.
